True Integrity

I have a secret.
No one can guess what it is.
They have asked me, but I don't tell.
"Why do you deny us?" they ask. "How can one of such sublime beauty say no?"
But I say no.
I know what my reflection shows in the still pool. I hear the sharp intake of breath from a stranger newly met.
But why that would make my inner desires the property of all, I have never understood.
So I keep my secret to myself and never tell.
Until the one I wait for finally comes, and I can whisper it in his ear.
